(WSIL) -- There's been a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in Southern Illinois these past few weeks.
The Southern Seven Health Department says 25 percent of their region is fully vaccinated.
Out of an abundance of caution, they will postpone Southern Seven's Southern Illinois Miners Night.
They say they don't want this to be seen as a condemnation of public gatherings.
"It is safe to continue to go into large gatherings, especially if you're vaccinated. If you're not vaccinated, you do still want to continue to wear your mask, and anyone who is vaccinated, we are encouraging you to wear your mask as well because you can still spread the virus unknowingly," says Community Outreach Coordinator, Shawnna Rhine.
Some of the event's proceeds will go toward Southern Seven's healthy lifestyles committee. That is still the plan for the event that is now being rescheduled for spring of 2022.
