GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. -- An individual was sent to a local hospital after a car wreck near Mayfield.Â
Mary A. Hayes, 49, of Sardis, TN, was sent to Mercy Health in Paducah due to injuries in the crash.Â
The crash occurred at the intersection of US 45 South and KY 80 around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies from the Graves County Sheriff's Office have deduced the following situation surrounding the wreck.Â
Jimmy Etheridge, 79, of Reagan, TN, was driving along the northbound side of US 45 prior to the crash. He drove a 2002 Nissan SUV. The stop light was red upon Etheridge's arrival and insertion into the intersection at US 45 and KY 80.Â

At this same time, Christian Mendoza, 23, of Batesville, AR, was traveling through the intersection. Etheridge hit the side of Mendoza's 2005 Chevrolet truck on the driver's door. Etheridge spun to the northern half of the intersection, while Mendoza pulled his vehicle onto the westbound side of the road.Â
Hayes, a passenger in Etheridge's car, was the only individual sent to a hospital.
Etheridge was quoted as experiencing no injuries on the scene. Mendoza suffered acute pain in his arm but did not need to go to the hospital. Mendoza's passenger saw no injuries.Â
Deputies charged Etheridge with possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in his car and disregarding a traffic control device.Â
The investigation is ongoing by Graves County deputies.Â
