CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- The first of nearly 1,600 Chromebooks were distributed Friday to Carbondale students.
It's part of the elementary school district's welcome back event.
Carbondale District 95 will be fully remote this year. The administration wanted to make sure students have the resources they need such as laptops, school supplies and Wi-Fi connection.
The new principal, Rachel Lathrop says she's looking forward to the new school year.
"A little nerves, and I'm sure there's nerves on the part of the families and students as well. But we're going to partner as a team to make sure everyone gets access and everything that they need," she said.
Parrish Elementary School also had a chromebook distribution. The other two elementary schools will get their supplies on Monday and Tuesday.
Parents say they are grateful for their school supplies.
"We love the idea of the Chromebooks. We probably would not have came to the district if it hadn't been for the opportunity to do the remote learning," said 6th grade parent Melinda Hilker.
Carbondale starts school Wednesday, August 19.
