CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Carbondale Elementary School District is giving WiFi access to students and families.
Students will not be allowed indoors, but can sit with their parents in their vehicles or anywhere outside the building.
The district says 70% of the student body live in households with incomes below the poverty line, with 40-60% possibly living in homes with no WiFi access.
Thomas Elementary School principal Robby Clark-Stokes says he hopes this will help serve students without internet access.
"Any of our four learning centers: Parish, Thomas, Lewis and CMS can pull up close to the building, usually where our parent pick-up lines are. And then they can access the WiFi from there," he said.
WiFi access will be available weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the end of May.
