CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Carbondale Elementary School 95 is expected to be fully online for the upcoming school year.
"We were faced with making a decision where there was really no great answer," Superintendent Daniel Booth said.Â
The school board met last night and unanimously approved the Remote Learning program, as they felt is was the best way to keep students safe and teach them effectively.
"Our school board felt that the priority for this decision would be on the safety of the health and wellness of our faculty, staff and students," Booth said.Â
The school district is also working to accommodate students without access to devices.
"We made the commitment to purchase over or about 2 thousand devices to make sure that every kid has their own device," Booth said.Â
The school district said they are also working with companies like Mediacom and Verizon to bring internet access to students who don't have access. The school district said they will cover the cost.
Students with learning disabilities are expected to be getting individualized plans to help get the specific help they need.
Superintendent Daniel Booth encouraged people to be patient and be ready to adapt to new information as it becomes available.
"And our goal will be to make sure that we are providing people a safe learning environment in whatever way is possible," Booth said.Â
The school district is currently working on a child care plan for students whose parents both work full time.
That plan is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
