(WSIL) -- The COVID-19 pandemic has brought up many different questions. One popular concern is the virus' impact on pets.
A handful of cats and a dog have tested positive for the virus.
Jeffery Parton, a veterinarian at Quality Care Animal Hospital in Herrin, says there's no reason to panic. All of the known cases where an animal has tested positive were in connection to a family or an owner who already had the virus.
"It's not going to be very common at all, probably. It's going to most likely be a very rare circumstance. There is no evidence that that pet can transfer the virus onto a human," said Parton.
Parton says at this time there isn't a good way to get your pets tested.
If someone is sick in the home, pets are advised to be quarantined as well.
Animals that have contracted the virus have displayed minor respiratory symptoms.
