HERRIN (WSIL) -- The Herrin House of Hope has seen an uptick of people in need during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Representatives from the organization say they are averaging 170 meals per day, and those numbers may be on the rise, they saw over 200 meals one weekday.

House of Hope says Herrin School District donated leftover food, to give to those in need.

House of Hope Director John Steve says, they are just trying to help where they can.

This is the time to do everything you can together as a whole community. To pool our resources together to keep up with demand, as well as the need, especially for hunger," said Steve.

The Herrin House of Hope is providing up to two meals per day, Monday through Friday. They are also providing two meals on Saturday.

The organization is open for curbside service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
