(CNN) -- The human immune system continues to protect the body at least a year after someone contracted COVID-19. And the vaccine appears to boost immune response in people who have recovered from the virus.
That's according to research released Monday in the journal 'Nature.'
Those involved with the data say immune system cells, called memory B-cells, continuously generate protection against the coronavirus.
Health officials have repeatedly stressed the importance of getting the COVID-19 shot, citing previous studies that say the products made by Pfizer and Moderna shield humans from variants of the virus.
