WHITEASH (WSIL) -- With kids heading back to the classroom -- some parents are weighing their options.

After many requests from members of Whiteash Free Will Baptist Church, organizers put together a Q&A event for those who have concerns about homeschooling.

"There's a lot of confusion sometimes amongst people who are trying to decide whether or not home education is for them," said church member Tanya Miller.

A couple dozen families heard advice and suggestions from parents who have homeschooled their children.

"There's no one perfect way that homeschooling looks or should be set up. And that's the beauty of it," said the pastor's wife Stephanie Lee.

Attendees covered topics from curriculum, to scheduling chores in between work and how to make assignments fun.

"Someone earlier was talking about they had studied science, animals and creatures of the world. And so then in their daily walk, they might talk about them and look for them and make those applications into their home applications," said Miller.

Speakers say the biggest myth about home schooling is that children can't be socialized.

"We coordinate field trips together with other homeschooling families. We do research projects," said Lee.

Homeschool teachers say the best way to get started is start researching curriculum and manage your time.

"It's something that you have to be extremely passionate about and take very seriously because you can not play around with childhood education," said Miller.
