MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- Governor Pritzker's latest restrictions go into effect on Thursday of limiting gatherings to 25 people or less or 25% of capacity. But that shouldn't affect local churches who will be able to continue with in-person services and Bible studies.
News 3 spoke with the directing pastor at Community of Faith Church in Marion. Reverend Dr. Troy Benitone said he feels the church has put enough safety precautions into place to keep all of their members safe.
Pastor Benitone said they started holding Sunday services a few months ago with COVID-19 rules in place. But after long discussions with the Elders in the church and other local church staff, he said they came to the conclusion that it was time to resume holding other church functions such as their weekly Bible classes.
Benitone said they are not trying to go against Illinois Department of Public Health recommendations but said for their faith group they are going to come together and he believes it's vital for the future of their church and congregation.
"At some point and time, people's lives have to move on and we are people of faith. I've had COVID so, its very real, its very serious, I'm not doubting that a bit. But we have also been a very careful church. We've had very few cases of it, none of the cases have been caused as of spread in the congregation because we are doing good process here," said Reverend Doctor Troy Benitone of Community of Faith Church.
Benitone said they have implemented several COVID-19 safety measures such as seating one family household or two sets of couples at one table during bible classes.
Benitone said they are still offering services on Facebook and online if people are still not comfortable coming to the church for services.
