The Johnson County, Illinois sheriff made a on Thursday disputing talk around town that he had employees who had tested positive for COVID-19 still on the job.

Sopczak said those rumors were not true and went to say "It still amazes me how stupid some people can be."

The post created a stir and had some people questioning the language the sheriff used--calling it a bit harsh.

"I'm not politically correct all the time. They didn't like some of the words and phrases I used because I used the words "stupid" and "ignorant". Well I use those against myself. I say 'I'm ignorant as a mechanic, I can't fix a car, I'm completely ignorant of it'. Or if I do something, you ever say 'Well that was stupid I don't know why I did that,'" Sheriff Sopczak said.

The sheriff has responded to multiple comments on the post.

Sopczak does confirm a pair of deputies have the virus but they are at home right now. He tells News 3 WSIL he doesn't understand how anyone would think otherwise.
