Only 5% of Region 5 ICU beds available; Positivity rate rises to 10.5%

(WSIL) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health announced on September 3rd that all southern Illinois counties remain at an Orange Warning Level status on the COVID-19 risk metrics.

The amount of New Cases Per 100,000 people, Test Positivity Percentage metrics, and falling ICU bed availability at area hospitals are causing the elevated risk levels.

Also, IDPH is reporting that only 5 percent of all ICU beds in Region 5 are available in hospitals. The average availability for ICU beds in our region is 4.5%.

is now at 10.5%. Most of our region's counties now sit over 10% positivity, with some reaching 20%,

  • Franklin County: 12.8%
  • Gallatin County: 20.1%
  • Hamilton County: 20.1%
  • Hardin County: 13.3%
  • Jackson County: 10.3%
  • Jefferson County: 8.6%
  • Johnson County: 7.3%
  • Massac County: 14.9%
  • Perry County: 9.9%
  • Pope County: 11.7%
  • Pulaski County: 17.7%
  • Union County: 4.3%
  • Williamson County: 10.7%

 including 178 additional deaths since reporting last Friday, August 27, 2021.
