.Showers and storms through today produced 1 to 4 inches of rainfall
across the Quad State. With another 5 to 9 inches of rainfall
forecast through Sunday, a particularly dangerous flooding and flash
flooding situation is expected.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, western
Kentucky and southwest Indiana.

* WHEN...Through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...
...This is a particularly dangerous situation...

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams,
and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams
may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
Extensive street flooding may develop. Flooding may occur in homes,
businesses and other locations not normally subject to flooding.
Roadways may wash away near creeks and culverts.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Multiple rounds of locally heavy rainfall over several days
will result in extreme forecast amounts of up to 1 foot of
rain that will cause the risk of flash flooding and flooding
to rise markedly and create a particularly dangerous flooding
situation.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor later forecasts and be alert for Flash Flood and Flood
Warnings. Be prepared to take action when flooding develops.

...The National Weather Service in Paducah KY has issued a Flood
Warning for the following rivers in Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Williamson and Franklin
Counties.

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

.A multi-day heavy rain is headed toward the region lasting through
Saturday. Three days of rainfall is incorporated into the forecast
but it still does not include the entire event. The Big Muddy River
has started to rise and increases in crest forecasts can be
expected. Now is the time to prepare for major flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

NOTICE...

* WHAT...Moderate flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...From late Friday night until further notice.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:30 AM CDT Thursday the stage was 12.5 feet.
- Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage early
Saturday morning to 30.7 feet early Monday afternoon. It will
then fall early Wednesday morning. It will rise to 30.2 feet
Wednesday evening. It will then fall again but remain above
flood stage.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

Parents line up to get 12 to 15-year-olds vaccinated

CARBONDALE (WSIL)---Parents were waiting with their children outside the doors of the Banterra Center at SIU in Carbondale, ready for their child to get their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

By 9:30 Thursday morning, officials say about a dozen teenagers had come in to get their COVID vaccine.

And about twenty 12 to 15-year-olds received their vaccine Wednesday night after the initial greenlight from health officials.

The Jackson County Health Department estimates 75-percent of their vaccinations were first doses and that parents are excited for the new age group.

Many expressed relief.

"Most of the parents that came so far are very excited. They are just relieved. You can tell that there's just this sense of relief with them. And I'm sure there is some concern out there. We do want to make sure that everybody knows, this has been fully tested and approved and we're really excited to get as many people vaccinated age 12 and up as we can so that we can try to find our new normal and keep everybody safe," said Paula Clark, the Jackson County Health Department Division Director.

And when asked why they wanted their kids vaccinated, parents said they will do whatever they can to protect their children.

Some parents made appointments less than five minutes after they found out it was available.

Reasons for wanting to get vaccinated varied between wanting to get life back to normal, doing their part to end the pandemic, and wanting to see grandparents again.

And for parents, they said the COVID vaccine isn't different than other vaccinations their children get.

"As a parent, I want to do everything I can to protect my son. From the time he was a baby, he was getting vaccinations to protect against diseases and I don't see this as being any different," said parent Lesa Spencer.

Spencer's son Harry said he wanted to get vaccinated so he could protect his grandparents.

And 12-year-old Melody Hungate said after she becomes fully vaccinated, she wants to go to the Hub in Marion, and hang out with her friends and get back to normal.
