THOMPSONVILLE (WSIL) -- COVID-19 continues to impact families in our region as dozens were in Thompsonville Saturday morning taking part in food distribution for the Community of Christ food pantry.

Those who run the pantry say they continue to see an increase in need among those living in Franklin County, which the pantry serves. This is shown as more families from outside of Thompsonville are showing up.

The pantry is open the third Saturday of each month providing frozen meats, cheese, dairy and shelf ready products.

Ann Schwengle, who is the coordinator for the food pantry, says it's important for the community to help those in need, especially during this time.

"We feel that it's our mission, first of all, as believers and followers of Jesus that we help our brothers and sisters and our families in need. And there's plenty of need in this county," Schwengle explains. "We try to give pretty generously so they can have a good holiday with their families and we're very happy to be able to do that."

The pantry is able to operate through the service of volunteers and the next distribution will take place on January 16th from 8-10 a.m.
