CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Governor JB Pritzker's order that Illinois residents must "stay at home" through April 7 is impacting students on the SIUC campus.

In a message to students and staff Friday, SIUC administrators explained that with the order in place students who are living on campus must stay on campus; students who are not on campus may not return.

Students who just want to pick up their possessions must wait until the order is lifted.

The university says students who are on campus will continue to have access to food, Student Health Services, wifi and other support.

"Please let me emphasize that those students who must stay at home in campus residence halls will be treated and supported as though they are part of our own family," said Chancellor John Dunn. "We have said this before, but it bears repeating: we are in an unprecedented, rapidly changing situation. We appreciate your patience and welcome your partnership as we move forward."

Many of the universities academic and administrative buildings will be closed. SIUC says only employees whose work requires them to be on campus will be on site.
