MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- News 3 is back in the animal shelter this week trying to help some of our furry friends find their 'Furever Homes'.
Meet Gwendolyn, a young pup looking for her 'Furever Home.'
"We rescued her from another shelter. She's three years old and she's a shepard mix. She's a great mom and she deserves a home after this," says Diane Daugherty, President of the Board at Saint Francis CARE.
Gwendolyn is a mom of three puppies, who will be up for adoption next week.
"Gwedolyn is in here with her three babies that are not babies so much anymore. We named them french fry, tator tot and some other potato because they came in so fat," says Daugherty.
Diane Daugherty says Gwedolyn is a little shy but will make a great pet. "She will make a wonderful family pet. As you can see she's not very big. I'm going to say 35, 40 pounds and she's still got milk in her so she's not a very big dog."
Daugherty says Gwendolyn likely came from a tough past. "Where she's been and what kind of life she's had before probably wasn't the best because she's not very sure of this situation. She deserves a chance at a good wonderful life."
Thanks to generous donations and hard work, Gwendolyn and her puppies are some of Saint Francis CARE's first residents in their new nursery.
"We're so proud of it. It's four stalls for mamas and their puppies, heated, air conditioned. We get alot of mamas and they haven't been taken care of. Sometimes their puppies are born healthy and sometimes they're not. Obviously these guys are awesome but we get some sad situations where their not. With a full time vet they have a chance," explains Daugherty.
