...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Williamson and Franklin
Counties.

.Heavy rainfall has ended across the area. The Big Muddy River is
continuing to rise and crests are expected over the next week.

For the Big Muddy River...including Plumfield, Murphysboro...Major
flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

forecast.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* IMPACTS...At 34.0 feet, Many surrounding homes begin to flood.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:30 PM CDT Sunday the stage was 25.7 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 8:30 PM CDT Sunday was 25.7 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 32.4
feet Wednesday morning.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

...FREEZE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH
TUESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 possible.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From late Monday night through Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM CDT MONDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of southern Illinois, including the following
counties, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Perry, Pulaski, Union,
Wayne and Williamson.

* WHEN...Until 1000 AM CDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water
crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 613 PM CDT, Even though the heavy rain has ended,
substantial flooding continues across much of the warned
area. Between 5 and 9 inches of rain have fallen since the
start of the event on Wednesday. Only light drizzle is
anticipated through this evening.
- Flooding impacts will continue, with only minimal additional
rainfall expected.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Marion, Mount Vernon, Herrin, West Frankfort, Benton, Du
Quoin, Pinckneyville, Carterville, Fairfield, Anna, Johnston
City, Christopher, Jonesboro, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser,
Zeigler, Crainville, Cambria and Cobden.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded

Unsung Hero: Two former Unsung Heroes Recognized by Local and State Officials

We did a follow up on two Unsung Heroes we previously featured.

CARTERVILLE, IL (WSIL) -- From time to time, WSIL has featured a story that has traveled fast and caught a lot of attention. This edition of Unsung Hero checked in on some of our past heroes to see how they're doing since we first shared their stories.

In October of 2021, News 3 introduced you to 10-year-old Danielle Griffith from Williamson County. Danielle cut 14 inches of her hair after 7-years so she could donate it to . After hearing what Danielle did, she was contacted by the Illinois Comptroller's Office. In a letter, Comptroller Susana Mendoza thanked her for her "kindness and compassion." She added, Danielle "displayed incredible heart and feelings toward others that should inspire all to follow your example. I know I'll be hearing more great things about you in the future." Unsung Hero Follow Up 3

In October of 2020, we met 12-year-old Tanner "" Sheldon of Harrisburg. He was using his diving skills to clean up trash. A lot has happened since then. He has since received a certificate from Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek and a Service Award from Illinois Senator Dale Fowler. Tanner is now 14-years-old and is a Master Diver with ten specialty courses.

Unsung Hero Follow Up 4

Tanner has also prepared a presentation on pollution and will be speaking at schools in April for Earth Day. Earth Day is Friday, April 22. He is also working on an Earth Day challenge to get people to clean up trash. Tanner is having people take pictures of themselves or their family while cleaning up and use the #turtleboi.
