(CNN) -- For some people just the though of eating a Cicada is enough to make them sick, but people with seafood allergies could become seriously ill from eating the insects.
The FDA says the brittle bugs have biological links to shrimp and lobsters. That's why health officials say people who have issues with seafood should avoid chowing down on the protein-packed bugs.
The creepy, red-eyed flying insects have emerged from a 17-year slumber to invade much of the East Coast right now.
Aside from those with allergies, Cicadas are harmless for humans and don't sting or bite.
