CARTERVILLE, ILLINOIS (WSIL) -- The community comes together Sunday afternoon for a BBQ fundraiser called Lunch for Landscaping.
Diners were able to have a tasty meal of BBQ pork steak, hash brown casserole, corn and dessert at the community center. While picked up their food and took it to-go.
It's all for a good cause by supporting the construction of a retaining wall, and providing landscaping and installation of a new flag pole. It will sit just off of Route 13 welcoming people to town.
Organizer Khrissy Hollister says residents miss the original flag pole and marker that was removed to make way for the recent highway expansion.
"It always is a team effort," she says. "There's so many doers in town, that's what Carterville is best for. Whenever there's a need, people come."
Local churches rallied together and provided the sides, while another resident helped to cook the meat. Then others volunteers to serve the meals and package them to-go.
Hollister adds the City is getting close to having the necessary funds to put in the flag pole.
