JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (WSIL) -- The is hosting author Brian Alvis, who will share his family's history in the area.

Alvis grew up in the small village of Kell and showed an interest in the arts at an early age. His first publication came in a local magazine.

Later, he self-published a short story teaming up with photographer Robbie Edwards. Alvis is the author of Shipwrecked, Bootlegger, Cyclone and A Horse of a Different Galaxy.

Alvis hopes by sharing his family's story it will motivate others to look into their past too.

“Come along as I trace my family roots from Scotland to Virginia to Tennessee and then to Jefferson County, Alvis says. "I’ll tell some interesting stories and introduce you to some of my ancestors. Black Lotus Research will be there to help guide us through and encourage you to start your own ancestry journey.

His books will be available for purchase during this program.

This is a free event but a donation is appreciated. It's taking place Saturday, November 19th at 2 p.m.
