Puxico fire damage

This boil water order has been lifted.

PUXICO, Mo. (WSIL) -- Residents in one small Stoddard County community were issued a boil water order in effect until further notice after firefighters said they dumped roughly one-million gallons of water on a large fire which destroyed most of their downtown area on Saturday.

Roughly 15 area fire departments responded to the City of Puxico when a fire ignited and spread to at least three buildings in the downtown area.

Fire officials said they used hundreds of thousands of gallons of water through the city's supply and used tanker trucks to fill up from a nearby pond as well.

Puxico's fire chief said in all, they used an approximate 1,000,000 gallons of water to douse the flames.
