CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The City of Carbondale is looking to improve access to affordable clean energy in the near future with the help of a half-a-million dollar grant.
Carbondale announced they were awarded $500,000 in planning funding through the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Phase 1 Energy Future Grants Program (EFG) on Tuesday.
A comprehensive pre-feasibility study will be conducted for what is known as "The Energy Sovereignty, Security, & Democracy Proposal�; which is described as a revenue-positive and replicable rural energy system model that fosters equitable American self-sufficiency and lasting prosperity for recovering energy communities, the City of Carbondale Government stated in a Facebook post.
“It’s never been a question of whether renewable energy is coming to ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois. It’s already here. It’s always been a question of who benefits.
