SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WSIL) -- Law enforcement are reminding the public to make sure you are sober if you get behind the wheel.

This coming before the holiday when people will celebrate New Year's.

(ISP) informs the public not to get behind the wheel if you have been drinking or using drugs.

They urge people to call a sober friend, take a taxi or city bus, or, use an Uber, Lyft or Rideshare. The main thing Illinois State Police are conveying to people is to make sure you have a sober driver to get you home safely.

ISP also mentioned you could walk home or just stay overnight if it's a place you can stay at.
