ANNA (WSIL) -- A well-known pastry shop in Anna closed its doors late last year, but one local family wasn't ready to see it go.
"All of us, including our parents, grew up with Davis Pastry right here, so we were sad just like everyone else in the community when it closed its doors," explains new co-owner Michael Bigler.
"We purchased Davis Pastry back in October, and I am one of six children that is in this partnership, so we are doing this together as a family affair," adds co-owner Brooke O'Reilly.
O'Reilly says they've made some tweaks to make it their own while still staying true to the original shop.
"We did an interior remodel completely for the dining area. The kitchen and the bakery area were set up really well, really efficiently, so we didn't have to do a whole lot back there."
The store may have received a new look, but there were some things that stayed the same.
Bigler explains, "We got the secret formula for the pink cookies, as my seven-year-old son says."
"Not only that, but we have one of his original pastry chefs working for us now, and so that helps keep all of the tradition and legacy alive with his wonderful recipes and pastries he's made all these years" says O'Reilly.
In the near future, you will be able to order your pink cookies online and have them delivered right to your door.
"Shipping the cookies came about because so many folks are from Anna-Jonesboro, but their kids moved away. They moved to St. Louis area, to Chicago area, to Texas. We've got a lot of folks coming in. This past Saturday, I had a gentleman who was driving down to Houston, Texas to see his son, and his son had to have the pink cookies," says Bigler.
"The local community has been really supportive, they're really excited to have this back. It really is a treasure for Anna, all of Union County, and I think Southern Illinois."
The new owners hope to have shipping available and live on their in March.
