CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- One juvenile was arrested and another taken to a hospital in connection to an investigation where police said a gun was accidentally fired.

The Carbondale Police Department said officers responded to the 300-block of South Marion Street on November 20, at 10:36 p.m., for a person who was shot.

Police said the shooting victim was a 16-year-old from Carbondale who was then sent to the hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police investigated and said they found four juveniles who were mishandling a gun and the gun ended up being fired.

The gun was earlier reported stolen and was recovered by officers, police stated.

The male juvenile who was suspected of shooting the gun was arrested and was charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. The juvenile was then later released to his parents.

Anyone with any information in connection to this incident is encouraged to contact the Carbondale Police Department at 618-549-2121.
