15-year-old arrested after gun found in car, Carbondale police report

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- City of Carbondale police officers arrested a 15-year-old male on May 20, 2025, during a traffic stop on East College Street. Officers said they found the teenager attempting to hide a gun in the vehicle.

Police then stated they recovered the firearm and ammunition without incident.

The juvenile was arrested and cited with an aggravated unlawful use of a weapon charge.

After consulting with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, authorities released the juvenile to his parent pending a court appearance.

Police are not releasing the suspect's identity in accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act.
