15-Year-Old Arrested After Police Investigate Threat Towards Another Student in Mt. Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- A 15-year-old was arrested after police investigate a threat made towards a student at a school in Mt. Vernon.

The Mount Vernon Police Department stated they were notified by the sheriff's office in Jefferson County on September 16, at 6:28 p.m. about a threat to a Mt. Vernon Township High School. student by another student.

Detectives with the Mount Vernon Police Department started investigating and school staff and the school resource officer were notified of the threat.

Police said a 15-year-old male was arrested and faces a charge of making a terroristic threat.

Police said the threat targeted a specific student. Authorities informed the school about the arrest and said there was no longer a threat to anyone.

The student in custody was later taken to a detention center in Chicago.
