24-year-old arrested after leading police on chase, ramming armored police vehicle

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 24-year-old was taken to jail after law enforcement said he rammed an armored police vehicle during a chase in Jefferson County on Tuesday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a domestic disturbance with a gun report at 1504 N. Old Centralia in Mt. Vernon at 11:57 a.m. on February 25.

The suspect was reported to have left the scene before deputies arrived. The sheriff's office said the suspect left in a silver Toyota Corolla. EMS also arrived at the scene but it was reported the victim did not require treatment.

The sheriff's office said one of their deputies saw the suspect in a vehicle leaving Casey's General Store at Salem Road and George Street in Mt. Vernon. At this time, the deputy then got behind the suspect and tried to pull him over.

More law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. Authorities said this included Mt. Vernon police officers, Illinois State Police and Secretary of State police investigators.

The sheriff's office said the Mt. Vernon Police Department brought out an armored Bearcat, in which the suspect in the silver Corolla rammed into which caused serious damage to the Corolla.

Authorities said officers then pinned the suspect in, identified as Johnathan Ames-Bourn, 24 of Highland, Illinois, and placed him under arrest.

Law enforcement also searched the car and said they found additional evidence.

Ames-Bourn was taken to the Jefferson County Jail and was cited with charges of Armed Robbery, Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, and Resisting / Obstructing a Peace Officer.
