BENTON, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 29-year-old was arrested and faces charges in connection to stabbing and stolen vehicle crash investigations in Benton.
The Benton Police Department said officers responded to a traffic crash at 11:38 p.m. on March 24, at the intersection of Webster Street and S. Main St.
Police accused Keith Redmon, 29, of being involved in the crash and running away on foot. Police also said the vehicle involved in the crash was reported stolen out of Williamson County.
Another person involved in the crash was taken to the Franklin Hospital with injuries. Officers then started searching for Redmon.
A little more than two hours later at 1:57 a.m. on March 25, officers with the Benton Police Department then responded to the 1000-block of Enterprise Street for a stabbing report.
Once officers got there, they reported the victim having a stab wound to the lower part of his chest area. Police said the victim told them Redmon was the suspect.
The stabbing victim was then taken to the Franklin Hospital and later flown out to a trauma center and was reported to be stable.
Officers then continued searching for Redmon. They said he was later found running in the area of N. Grand and Joplin Street and was then taken into custody without incident.
Redmon was cited with Aggravated Battery and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle charges and taken to the Franklin County Jail.
Assisting the Benton Police Department in the investigation was the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office K9 unit, West City Police Department, Illinois State Police and the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency.
