31-year-old arrested after police say a homeowner reported their friend had a gun

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- A 31-year-old was taken into custody after police said a homeowner reported a friend was in possession of a gun.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department said at around 12 a.m. on March 24, officers responded to the 1000-block of Hickory Street in regards to a report of a weapon violation.

A homeowner was reported to have told police a friend was in the basement and had a gun.

Police went down into the basement where they said they found Anthony Harris, 31 of Cape Girardeau, and took him into custody. Police said they found a gun with an extended magazine and what they suspect was methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia.

Police said they checked the records for Harris and found he is prohibited from having any guns.

Harris was taken to the Cape Girardeau Police Department and was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
