55-year-old faces harassment charge after accused of threatening collection agency worker

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- A woman faces a harassment charge after police said she threatened a person and business in Cape Girardeau.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department said on November 21, at 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a business in Doctor's Park where they said some threats were reported from a person.

Police spoke to a victim at the business who said she worked for a collection agency who talked with Debra Hamilton, 55 of Cape Girardeau, via a phone call in relation to some outstanding debt.

Police reported the employee told officers Hamilton was irate on the phone call and threatened to bring a bomb to the business. Police then said Hamilton also called at a later time and threatened the victim again.

At this point, the business went on lockdown.

Hamilton was later taken into custody and faces a 2nd degree harassment charge. Hamilton was issued a $10,000 surety bond.
