ZEIGLER, Ill. (WSIL) -- A man faces multiple charges after police responded to the Zeigler-Royalton High School for a burglary report.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said a potential burglary was taking place at the Zeigler-Royalton High School on the night of March 16, at 11:05 p.m.
Officers with the Zeigler Police Department, along with deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded.
The sheriff's office said officers saw a man leaving from the school, then running away once he saw police on scene. A short time later, law enforcement said they caught up with the man and took him into custody.
After they investigated, the sheriff's office said there were items stolen from within the school and Steven Godfrey, 31 of Christopher, was identified as the suspect.
Godfrey was taken to the Franklin County Jail and cited with Theft (Class 4 Felony), Burglary (Class 1 Felony), Criminal Trespass to State Supported Property (Class A Misdemeanor), Criminal Damage to State Supported Property (Class A Misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor).
