WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) -- A Carbondale couple faces felony charges in Williamson County for allegedly attacking a football coach after the final game of the season.

The incident happened last Friday following a football game between Carbondale Community High School and Marion High School, according to court documents.

Police were called to the MHS football field in response to a fight on the field, the documents say. Williamson County Auxiliary officers detained the couple before police arrived.

Struthers told police she slapped CCHS head coach Bryan Lee in the face 'because he lied to her son about his playing time on the football team' the document says. Struthers told officers she had anger issues, which were being treated with medication.

Huffman told police he saw Struthers hitting Lee in the face. Huffman said he tackled the coach to the ground after seeing Lee lift his arm, thinking Lee would retaliate against Struthers.

The officer on scene wrote that Lee had blood on his face coming from his mouth and requested an ambulance for treatment.

Two witnesses on scene told police they saw Struthers hit Lee in the face and Huffman tackling Lee. Both witnesses then separated those involved.

The couple was arrested and taken to the Williamson County Jail. School officials advised they would gather video footage of the event if it was captured by video cameras, the documents say.

The couple is scheduled to be in court for a preliminary hearing on June 7 at 1:15 p.m.
