HERRIN (WSIL) -- Police chased a suspect through multiple towns before being found by a K-9 officer and the dog.
According to the , the pursuit started Friday around 12:44 p.m. on Clark Trail. That's when Rex M. Summers failed to stop for multiple traffic violations.
He led the officer through Energy, Carterville, Cambria, Hurst and Bush.
Officers from those towns also joined in on the pursuit.
At one point, the suspect drove head on toward a Cambria Officer's vehicle causing him to run off the roadway to avoid being struck.
Authorities say Summers tried to go around a gated driveway and hit a tree, so he got out of the vehicle and ran away from cops.
The K-9 officer and the dog Roxy then tracked down the suspect, and located him on the front porch of a residence on Elm Street in Bush.
Police took Summers to the Herrin Hospital for a medical evaluation. The suspect was released by medical staff and transported to the Williamson County Detention Center.
Summers is facing multiple charges including:
- Driving while license revoked
- Disobeying a stop sign X 4
- Operating an uninsured motor vehicle
- Speeding 52 MPH in a 25 MPH zone
- Speeding 85 MPH in a 35 MPH zone
- Aggravated fleeing and elude - speed over
- Aggravated flee and elude - more than two traffic violations.
Herrin police were also assisted by Williamson County Sheriff's Department and the Illinois State Police.
