Homemade explosive found after shooting, suspect now in custody

McCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (WSIL) -- Multiple agencies investigated a shooting in Paducah that ended with a bomb squad being called to the scene.

According to the it all started around 4 p.m. Thursday in the 5100 block of Concord Avenue.

Deputies found Tyler Busby, 29, shot in a driveway. Investigators say he'd been shot twice in the upper torso.

He was taken to Lourdes Hospital, via ambulance, and is now in stable condition.

Investigators say Jay Garland, 43, of Paducah, shot Busby during a domestic dispute. According to a press release Busby was trying to protect his mother at the time.

Garland was taken into custody at the scene on the following preliminary charges:

  • Assault 1stÌý»å±ð²µ°ù±ð±ð.
  • Convicted felon in possession of a handgun

Investigators began searching the home where the shooting occurred and found a homemade explosive. According to the sheriff the Paducah Police Department bomb squad helped deputies remove the device.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by the Paducah Police Department, Mercy Regional EMS, and Concord Fire Department.
