A 17-year-old is accused of breaking into a liquor store early Sunday morning. The sheriff's office said the teen was tracked down by their K9 and found at his home a half-mile mile away.
COLP, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 17-year-old is accused of breaking into a liquor store early Sunday morning. The sheriff's office said the teen was tracked down by their K9 officer and found at home a half-mile mile away.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a burglary at 101 Herrin Road in Colp on January 12 at 1:55 a.m. This was reported to be at the Big Daddy Liquor business.
Deputies arrived at the business at 2 a.m. to find a broken glass door.
K9 Shadow with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office went through the broken glass door and found there were no suspects in the building.
The sheriff's office said K9 Shadow then tracked the fleeing suspect over a half-mile away to a home on the 200-block of Madison Street in Colp. There the sheriff's office said they found the 17-year-old suspect in the home.
The juvenile admitted to breaking into the retail store, along with the theft of multiple bottles of alcoholic beverage, the sheriff's office stated.
The 17-year-old was then arrested and taken to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and later released to a parent/guardian.
The sheriff's office said the juvenile was cited with the following charges...

- Criminal Damage to Property
- Theft
The juvenile was also issued a notice to appear in court.
