MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. -- A man is in custody after fleeing from a halfway house and is accused of breaking into dozens of storage units.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said they have been investigating a rash of burglaries and vandalism at the Stone Creek Storage Units in Farley for the past two months.
The sheriff's office said there have been 43 storage units there that have been broken into.
Several days ago, the sheriff's office was alerted of a man who was on the property and actively breaking into some storage units there at 9:30 p.m. on September 22.
That's when deputies arrived in the area, including Corporal Brad Lamb and his partner K9 Vegas.
The sheriff's office said the suspect saw law enforcement and then ran into a nearby cornfield.
K9 Vegas then tracked down the suspect through the cornfield and other thick vegetation and found him about a mile away.
The suspect then refused verbal commands and tried to run away again, however, that's when K9 Vegas then went ahead and apprehended him and assisted deputies in bringing him in, MCSO said.
Jessie F. Cross, 46 of Harlan County, Ky. was identified as the suspect. MCSO later learned Cross had two active warrants for his arrest and recently fled the Half-Way House in Paducah.
Cross was then taken to the McCracken County Jail and faces 43 counts of burglary, a count of fleeing or evading police and a count of criminal mischief.
