MARION (WSIL) -- A man is in custody after trying to steal a vehicle at the Kroger gas station in Marion.
Frederick J. Todd, 49, is charged with unlawful vehicular invasion and aggravated battery of a person over the age of 60.
Marion Police were originally called to the gas station Monday morning for a report of an attempted child abduction.
Police were told a man was looking into vehicles and tried to take the car keys from one woman. The woman fought back, and after a struggle, the man walked away.
Investigators say the woman suffered cuts to her hand but did not need medical attention.
"This incident was originally reported as an attempted child abduction however, video and investigation show this was an individual looking to commit a vehicle theft," stated a release from the Marion Police Department.
Todd was taken into custody and transported to the Williamson County Jail.
"Don't leave your keys in your vehicle. Don't leave it unlocked. And if you do have your child with you, either take the child to go pay for the gas or stay within eye shot of that vehicle, and keep it locked so no one can get in there," added Marion Police Chief David Fitts.
