METROPOLIS (WSIL) -- A Metropolis woman is facing multiple charges after attempting to take back her child.

On Thursday, June 17, Metropolis officers received a 911 call that a baby had been taken from a DCFS custodian by force.

When officers arrived, they learned 32-year-old Amber Gilbert, who is homeless, had her child taken by DCFS and placed in the care of the victims.

Officers observed Gilbert on the south side of the street near a car, holding a baby. She was yelling and cussing at the custodians.

They then learned Gilbert showed up at the home attempting to sell an item and learned the baby was there. She then struck the two victims and snatched the baby.

Officers arrested Gilbert on two counts of domestic battery and child abduction.

Gilbert was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
