SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- A woman is behind bars and faces felony charges after allegedly shooting another person.
The Scott City Police Department said the incident happened on Sunday. Officers responded to a report of a female who was shot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a female with an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers then started helping give aid to the victim. They also started investigating what happened.
It was determined by the officers that another female shot a gun and threatened two people.
Police said it happened as one of the individuals was armed, and another person tried to disarm the female who had the gun. While struggling to get the gun away, the gun discharged which then shot the female.
Police said the female was taken to an area hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Megan Heffner was taken into custody and she was taken to the Scott County Jail. She faces charges of armed criminal action, two counts of assault in the 1st degree, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and stealing.
