SESSER (WSIL) --
A Pinckneyville man is sitting in the Franklin County Jail Saturday facing charges after allegedly fighting with a Sesser officer on a traffic stop the night before.
The incident started about 9:27 p.m. Friday at Espy and Elm Streets in Sesser. The call for help and its medical and law enforcement response received a lot of attention social media.
"It was right outside of my house," Gina Tinsley said. "The cop pulled someone over and they fought. The person he pulled over has been taken into custody."
Sesser Police also took to social media for their press release. In a statement they said the driver of the vehicle is identified as Christopher Ryan.
The name of the officer has not been released.
The officer knew that Ryan had an outstanding Franklin County warrant and was to be considered armed an dangerous, according to police.
"As the officer attempted to place Ryan under arrest Ryan resisted and began fighting with the Officer. During the fight The Officer was able to call for emergency assistance and several agencies responded. The assisting officers arrived and were able to help take Ryan into custody," the statement read in part.
Both the Officer and Ryan received minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals where they were treated and released.
Ryan was cited for possession of methamphetamine, aggravated battery to a peace officer,resisting arrest, criminal damage to property and traffic violations.
"We would like to thank the Christopher Police Dept. Zeigler Police Dept. Valier Police Dept. West Frankfort Police Dept. the Franklin County Sheriffs office and the Illinois State Police for their rapid response," the statement read.
