Police identify possible suspect in connection to Walmart burglary in West City

WEST CITY, Ill. (WSIL) -- West City Police have a possible suspect in connection with the burglary that happened at the Walmart there December 27.

West City's Police Chief confirms to News 3 that suspect is from northern Illinois. Police used fingerprinting and DNA evidence to identify the person. 

They believe the suspect was involved in a series of similar incidents at Walmart stores across the state. 

Police continue their search for two other suspects wanted in connection with the West City Walmart burglary.

ORIGINAL STORY:

WEST CITY, Ill. (WSIL) -- Authorities in West City are looking for three suspects in connection to a burglary which took place in Walmart in West City on Friday night.

The West City Police Department stated officers responded to Walmart Supercenter on Giacone Drive at 9:20 p.m. on December 27, after a report of a robbery taking place in the jewelry department.

Police said three male suspects, believed to be Hispanic, targeted the jewelry display case and then used a burglary tool to get in a display case. Police said a "substantial amount of gold jewelry was stolen."

The suspects then fled the store and left in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said. The vehicle was also reported to have had some damage to the rear passenger side and they left without using headlights and then went south on I-57.

"The safety and security of our community remain a top priority and we appreciate the public's cooperation as we work diligently to resolve this matter," West City Police Department stated in a release.
