Police kill man after ‘shots fired� call in Red Bud; 1 officer injured

RED BUD, Ill. (WSIL) -- Illinois State Police is investigating a fatal shooting in Randolph County.

Police responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of Illinois Route 3 and Clarence Drive in Red Bud just after 1:38 a.m. Sunday.

ISP says a male suspect shot a Red Bud police officer, who was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

During the incident, a second officer fired his weapon and killed the suspect. The shooting victim remains unidentified. The Red Bud Police Department requested ISP's assistance.

ISP Zone 7 Investigations is handling the ongoing case.
