WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. -- A stabbing suspect is accused of flipping a table towards correctional officers and resisting arrest in a holding room, adding additional charges to him in Williamson County.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said on February 27, at 8:50 p.m., John D. Corliss was put in a holding room with two other correctional officers inside, after he was arrested earlier in the day by the Herrin Police Department in regards to a stabbing incident at a Huck's gas station.

While in the holding room, Corliss was accused of grabbing the table and trying to hit the correctional officers with it by flipping it in the air.

Other deputies came in to assist as Corliss was reportedly resisting arrest.

Corliss was then put in handcuffs and taken to the Williamson County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Assault to a Correctional Officer and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer, the sheriff's office stated.

These two charges were on top of the attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery charges he faced after the stabbing incident, according to online court records as of March 10.

“Any attempt to threaten, harm, or resist our Correctional Officers or Deputies is taken very seriously, stated Sheriff Jeff Diederich.

Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson stated, “Charges related to the stabbing are expected as my office and investigators prepare to present this case to the Grand Jury.
