JOHNSTON CITY (WSIL)--For Laura Taylor, she thought that the biggest change that she'd have in her life was the birth of her newborn daughter this weekend.
But what she didn't know is that while she was bringing her baby girl home, someone was breaking into this storage unit to steal pieces of the life she was beginning to build for her and her new baby.
"It's completely devestating. It's totally devastating," Taylor said.
On September 23, Taylor received a phone call from CNK Mini Storage, asking if she had recently moved her stuff out.
"I told her no I had not. And she said 'Well I'm sorry to tell you then. You were one of 15 units on our lot that got broken into over this weekend,'" said Taylor.
According to Johnston City police, the robbers cut open the locks on the storage units in order to get inside. So far the police have a few leads.
"We have suspects and we also have a list of items that was stolen. And we are using that list to actively look for anything that is being sold," said Johnston City Police Chief JD Barter.
Taylor had recently moved from Oregon back to Johnston City to live with her parents and she had stored everything from her house in the storage unit.
Furniture, kitchen supplies, old t-shirts, artwork that she had collected and new supplies such as her baby's crib and high chair were all stolen.
"My poor little baby, she's five days old and they took her crib. I had a whole life of stuff that we were gonna move into a house and now it's just, it's gone," said Taylor.
There are security cameras at the storage facility and police hope that footage will help find who broke into the units.
Until then, Taylor wants the robbers to know this was not a victimless crime.
"I'm in a hard spot now. I have a new baby and I need to be spending time and energy with her, and now I'm spending time and energy trying to find my stuff, trying to replace my stuff. This is not what this time in my life should be, and this is what it is," said Taylor.
While the investigation is still active and the police do have a few suspects, Taylor is still left wondering who did this and why.
