PADUCAH, KY (WSIL) -- Officers and K-9 units were able to track down the suspect accused of shooting another man in the face Wednesday in Paducah.

According to Police Chief Brian Laird, William R. Moore, 20, is now in the McCracken County Jail. Moore faces assault and gun possession charges.

Investigators say Moore pointed a gun at Tyreik Simmons, 23, Wednesday afternoon and pulled the trigger. Moore later told police he had no idea the gun was loaded.

Simmons got hit in the face with the bullet but was able to talk to officers before going to an out of state hospital.

Moore fled the scene before police arrived but was tracked down near Stonebrook Drive after a disturbance. He ran into a wooded area but was eventually taken into custody.

Chief Laird says Moore was released from jail on probation Monday for a previous gun crime.

Witnesses say Moore fired three shots on Nov. 5, 2019, at another man on Adams Street. One of those bullets hit a church building.
