WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) -- Deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office responded to a call on May 1, at 6:26 a.m., regarding suspicious activity on Illinois Route 37. Two individuals were reported going door to door ringing doorbells.
Upon arrival, deputies said they found a vehicle on Southern Hunt Road with two occupants. The sheriff's office said the driver was identified as Raymond A. Long who claimed the car's battery died while they listened to music. Authorities reported Long was unable to provide the owner's name and was found to have a suspended driver's license.
Long was arrested and cited for driving with a suspended license and no valid driver's license, both Class A misdemeanors.
Later in the day, at 1:15 p.m., the Southern Illinois University Police Department informed deputies the vehicle was stolen, though not yet reported at the time. Long was then transferred to Jackson County and handed over to university police.
The sheriff's office said Long faces multiple felony charges in both Williamson and Jackson counties.
