Victim dies after shooting incident in Cape Girardeau; suspect faces murder charge

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- Police said a female is dead after succumbing to her injuries after a late-night shooting on May 11, 2025, in Cape Girardeau. The suspect now faces murder and armed criminal action charges.

Police said they responded to the 1300-block of Kenwood Drive around 11:45 p.m. Officers reported finding a female in the passenger seat of a vehicle and provided aid until medical personnel arrived. She was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities identified Cacey Bright, 59, of Cape Girardeau as the suspect. Bright was arrested and originally charged with a Class A felony of domestic assault in the first degree and felony armed criminal action. On May 14, police said the victim died from her injuries. Bright's domestic assault charged was amended and she now faces a charge of murder in the second degree.

Bright is being held on a $1,000,000 cash-only bond.
