...FREEZE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH
TUESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 to 30 degrees
possible. Everyone should see a 32 degree low or close to it.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From late Monday night through Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Williamson and Franklin
Counties.

.Heavy rainfall has ended across the area. The Big Muddy River is
continuing to rise and crests are expected over the next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is
forecast.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...Until further notice.

* IMPACTS...At 34.0 feet, Many surrounding homes begin to flood.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 11:00 AM CDT Sunday the stage was 23.9 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 32.4
feet Wednesday morning.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of southern Illinois, including the following
counties, Franklin, Hamilton, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Perry,
Pulaski, Union, Wayne and Williamson.

* WHEN...Until 700 PM CDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water
crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 817 AM CDT, Even though the heavy rain has ended,
substantial flooding continues across much of the warned
area. Between 5 and 9 inches of rain have fallen since the
start of the event on Wednesday. Additional light rainfall
amounts up to one tenth of an inch are possible in the warned
area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Carbondale, Marion, Mount Vernon, Herrin, West Frankfort,
Murphysboro, Benton, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Carterville,
Fairfield, Anna, Johnston City, Mcleansboro, Christopher,
Jonesboro, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser and Zeigler.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

West Frankfort man sentenced in child sexual assault case

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (WSIL) -- A West Frankfort man has been sentenced to 48 years behind bars in a case involving sexual assault of a child.

Steven D. Sneed, 63, was sentenced by Honorable Judge Tedeschi on Thursday to serve the 48 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to Franklin County State's Attorney Abby Dinn in a news release.

On August 24, 2022, 12 Franklin County jury members returned a unanimous guilty verdict after State's Attorney Dinn presented the evidence of Sneed committing an act of sexual contact with a 10-year-old child in 2018.

The case was investigated by the West Frankfort Police Department and the Franklin Williamson Child Advocacy Center. The case was prosecuted by State's Attorney Dinn.
