Dozens sign petition asking leaders in Congress to expel Rep. Mike Bost

(WSIL) -- A petition is calling for leaders on Capitol Hill to expel U.S. Representative Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) from Congress.

"We ask that the House Speaker and Majority Leader expel Mike Bost for voting to approve the seditious objections to the election of Joe Biden for President," the petition reads.

The petition on says Bost has "consistently ignored feedback from constituents in Illinois District 12, and voted along partisan lines with the Trump administration."

The petition adds that Bost's decision to support rejecting election results "further demonstrates how out of touch he is with the will of the people in this district."

As of Sunday morning, the petition has more than 1,200 total signatures.

Bost, along with U.S. Reps. Mary Miller (R-Oakland, Ill.) and Jason Smith (R-Cape Girardeau, Mo.) voted to object the Electoral College results late Wednesday night.

The three also signed onto a lawsuit led by Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) in December. The lawsuit didn't get far in the court system, with the U.S. Supreme Court saying that the motion had a 'lack of '.

The petition comes after Wednesday's violence on that left five people dead, including a Capitol police officer.

Prior to the violence, President Donald Trump held a rally at the White House Ellipse where he continued to spread claims of voter fraud.

"We will never give up. We will never concede," President Trump said. "You don't concede when there's theft involved.. We will stop the steal." President Trump officially on Thursday.

Bost added that President Trump and his team should not be held culpable of inciting Wednesday's violence.

"Many people have never liked how Donald Trump Speaks. He's a New York business guy and he kind of just lets it fly out there," Bost said. "Remember, he's never claimed to be a politician."
